The City of Magog, located in the Eastern Townships, covers 144.12 km2 and has a permanent population of 24,359. In 2006, Magog had 12,553 homes, of which 10,693 were occupied by permanent residents. In December 2002, Magog merged with Magog Township and the Village of Omerville to create a single municipality.
Today, Magog—the main city of the Memphrémagog regional county municipality (RCM)—is one of the region’s most dynamic centers. Magog is strategically located about 100 km from Montréal and 30 minutes from the United States border. In other words, it occupies a key place between the American and Canadian markets.
Its industrial sector (manufacturing and construction) employs 38% of the labor force, followed closely by the professional sector (sales and services), which accounts for 24% of the working population.
Magog has a balanced, diversified economy of businesses operating in the industrial and commercial sectors. The region is also a tourist destination with sport, cultural, and recreational infrastructure.
Magog is the ideal place to locate a business: qualified workforce, exceptional geographic location with a truly unique lake, nearby business services, a broad selection of subcontractors, and good labor relations. Moreover, Magog stands out as a strategic choice because it offers technical support at every step of the way in implementing industrial projects and has a group of professionals ready to help businesspeople like you!
Natural Attractions
Magog's city council is doing everything possible to safeguard the environment as a heritage for future generations. In keeping with this concern, Magog offers a wealth of outdoor activities so that everyone can enjoy this protected environment. Here are just a few examples:
- The bike trail crossing Magog from east to west stretches nearly 20 km through breathtaking panoramic scenery and is part of Quebec's "green route" (Route verte in French). In addition, there is a 7-km network of bike paths connecting the city's main parks and foot paths accessible year-round.
- Our beaches are incredibly popular during the summer for many reasons: simply relaxing, windsurfing (rentals and classes available on site), beach volleyball (municipal courts), and much more! Our beaches are located in the well-known Baie-de-Magog park (east and west beaches) and at the Plage des Cantons.
- A naturally captivating discovery awaits you at the Marais de la Rivière aux Cerises (wetland)! Hike, cross-country ski, or snowshoe along 6 km of trails wending their way through an environment teeming with plants and wildlife. The site also features an observation tower and footbridges leading to points of interest. Guided kayak tours on the Rivière-aux-Cerises are also available (reservation required).
We look forward to you joining in this year-round art of living!
